It is not easy to become an actor, but there are some concrete steps that you can take to improve your chances of success. One thing you’ll want to focus on is networking, because the people that you know personally will be your most valuable resource for finding jobs, getting auditions, and getting cast. Of course, you should also make sure to put in sufficient time and energy to perfecting your craft so that you can make the most of each opportunity.

One of the best ways to hone your skills is to get formal training. There are some outstanding conservatory programs that provide training in acting, directing, playwriting, stagecraft, acting for the camera, stage combat, etc. Having this type of well-rounded knowledge and skill will make you a more versatile and desirable actor. It will also help you to form valuable contacts in the industry.

Of course you will need a resume, and as an actor you will also need a headshot. This is simply a representative photo that shows what you look like. You will attach it to the back of your resume and include it every time you send your resume to an agent or casting director. That brings us to the acting resume format: an actors resume should be exactly one side of one page, and this enables you to affix the headshot photo onto the back so tht each side faces out. The resume should have separate sections for film acting, television acting, commercial acting, theatre acting, etc.

There should also be one last section at the end for special skills that may have an impact on the parts you are eligible to play. In some areas, you will also want to put together a composite card–this is the same thing as a modeling zed card. It can list all the parts you have played or types of magic movies you have been in.

All that’s left is to find yourself a good acting agent. First check the union rules for your state, because some states allow you to have multiple agents and others allow you to have only one. This is important because it will affect the decision-making process. You may want to start out with a smaller acting agency and audition for the larger ones. Each agency will have a different range of jobs that they can help you get auditions for.
