Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
This is the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, a fantasy adventure movie coming in 3D. The plot is inspired from the novel of the same name by Tim Powers. It features the character of Johnny Depp, Capt. Jack Sparrow, as he searches for the famed Fountain of Youth and encountering the infamous pirate Blackbeard.
He will also meet fictional versions of other historical characters like George II, Ferdinand VI of Spain and Henry Pelham. On Stranger Tides is expected to come to theaters in May 2011.
Jungle Cruise (2012)
Pirates of the Caribbean was based on a Disneyland theme park ride. It was a huge success, so Disney decided to give another theme park attraction-based movie a try. Jungle Cruise is loosely based on the attraction of the same name.
The movie is based on a riverboat journey through a rainforest for the mission of searching for a cure. Little is known of the plot, but as of March 2011 Disney announced that Tom Hanks & Tim Allen would be on the movie.
King of the Elves (2014)
King of the Elves is based on Phillip K. Dick’s short fantasy story, about an average guy in the Mississippi who was reluctantly named king of the elves after saving them from a menacing troll. The reluctant new leader finds himself in a magical journey with unimaginable dangers and a renewed appreciation for adventure and life. It is slated to come to theaters in 2012.
John Carter of Mars (2012)
As the name suggests, it’s a fantasy science fiction movie featuring John Carter. John Carter is a war veteran who sleeps in a cave after escaping from Apache Indians, and finds himself the next day on Mars. Mars used to be like Earth, but the environment become more hostile towards living beings—oceans have evaporated, water and food is scarce and airs have thinned.
Inhabitants of the planet are now warring against each other in order to survive. He was held prisoner, escapes, only to encounter Princess Dejah Thoris, who is desperately asking for his help. It is set to be released on 2012 and will be a Disney/Pixar effort.
Maleficent (2013)
Maleficent is one of the most popular evil villains in classic Disney movies. Because of her fame, Disney decided to make a new movie based on Sleeping Beauty but from Maleficent’s point of view. It is rumored that Angelina Jolie will be starring Maleficent and Tim Burton will be directing the film.
